BRENT LILLIE AND BARBED WIRE BIO:
Brent Lillie teamed his talents with those of Paul Harris and Jennifer
Matthews to form Barbed Wire in late 2005. Barbed Wire is contagious energy, unpredictable onstage antics and clever original songs with more twists in the tail than a litter of piglets. There is nothing quite like Barbed Wire in Australia.
The sound is unique - unmistakably country - yet Brent Lillie and Barbed Wire is rapidly building a fanbase both within, and outside of,
the country market.
Brent's favourite artist is the Beatles. Paul's is James Taylor. Some may say that these are odd musical influences for a country band. But one listen will tell you that this lively bunch are no mere 'cowboys for a day'.
Brent is the quintessential bush poet who has an uncanny ability to find
humour in every day situations and this is highlighted in many of the songs in his varied catalogue of self-penned compositions. For Barbed Wire, it's all about getting the songs out there and having the most fun possible doing it.
The band went to Tamworth unannounced, virtual unknowns, performing at a variety of low key venues. But they sold all of their CD's and Brent even found himself scratching around in a car for his last copy to sell to a fan who steadfastly refused to leave until she got her hands on one. One venue manager, upon seeing people queuing up for signed CD's was perplexed: "Bloody hell," he commented. "No-one usually buys CD's here!"
That pretty much sums up Barbed Wire. A band that has a habit of breaking new ground without even realising it.
'Many of the songs are world-class. 'Lovestorm', in particular appeals and - given the right treatment - would in my opinion be a genuine contender for at least top 5 in the U.S. (Brent) has a strong grasp of a lyric. Rarely have I seen better' - - Hayden Bell, record producer and driving force behind the Savage Garden project.
'Simply great songs that leave you wanting more' - John Nutting, presenter 'Saturday Night Country' , ABC's nationally broadcast country radio program.
Whether you're watching them perform 'unplugged' in the corner of a pub or playing through the some of the biggest and best PA systems in the country, you'll find yourself getting hooked on Barbed Wire, too. You can even get in on the act, if you care to sing along.
